Burrell High School's innovative approach to education and focus on student wellbeing has caught the attention of HundrED, a global organization dedicated to promoting impactful education innovations. The school's efforts in developing BHS Learner Profiles and re-imagining high school education have landed them a coveted spot on HundrED's shortlist of innovations for their Spotlight on Wellbeing in Schools.
Dr. Autumn Turk, director of curriculum and development at BSD, and the Parents as Allies Team (sponsored by Kidsburgh) presented their innovative family engagement initiatives at the HundrED Innovation Conference in Helsinki, Finland last Fall. Dr. Turk highlighted the school's commitment to family engagement through activities such as fireside chats and community connection events.
The collaboration between Dr. Turk, Personalized Learning Coach Dan Pounds, and the district’s personalized learning team has been instrumental in showcasing the impact of Burrell's approach to education on student well-being. Dr. Turk noted that the school's work on Reimagine High School opportunities and learner profiles aligns seamlessly with HundrED's focus on promoting self-awareness and agency to enhance student well-being.
Burrell High School's learner profiles, created by Mr. Pounds, enhance self-awareness among students and provide a personalized approach to education that caters to individual student needs. By incorporating these profiles into the school's Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum, Burrell High School is paving the way for relevant and engaging learning experiences that prioritize student well-being.
Being shortlisted among 34 innovations from 71 countries is a significant achievement for Burrell High School. Their inclusion on HundrED's shortlist is a testament to its dedication to creating a positive and supportive learning environment that nurtures student growth and development.
Looking ahead, Burrell High School aims to advance to the next round of 10 innovations featured in HundrED's publication. The ultimate goal is to secure an invitation to HundrED's prestigious innovation summit in Helsinki, where education leaders and innovators from around the world gather to share best practices and inspire change in education.
Burrell High School keeps pushing the limits of traditional education and focuses on student well-being. HundrED's recognition is not just proof that their new approach works but also a source of pride and inspiration for schools around the world. Burrell High School is changing how high school education is done. It focuses on students' development and ensuring that students are happy and can succeed in today's world.
