Strong schools are built on strong partnerships, and one of the best ways to strengthen those partnerships is to listen.
That is the idea behind Burrell School District's Parents as Allies team. The program brings together parents, students, staff, and administrators to share ideas, ask questions, and have honest conversations about the experiences that shape our schools. It is an opportunity to celebrate what's working, discuss areas for growth, and ensure every voice has the opportunity to be heard.
The most recent Parents as Allies gathering, Burrell Community Connections, continued that mission. The team also held student-led fireside chats at Burrell High School and Huston Middle School this year.
Throughout the events, participants shared thoughtful feedback about their experiences in Burrell schools. Families recognized the strong relationships students build with teachers and staff, the variety of academic and extracurricular opportunities available, and the many programs that help students stay connected and engaged.
Participants also shared ideas for continued improvement.
Topics such as communication, student belonging, and school culture fostered meaningful discussion. Like many school communities, these conversations continue to evolve, and district leaders value the honest feedback provided by parents and students.

The purpose of Parents as Allies is not to solve every challenge in a single meeting. It is to create an ongoing conversation where ideas can be shared, questions can be asked and partnerships between families and schools continue to grow.
Every conversation helps the district better understand the needs of students and families while providing valuable insights that guide future conversations, programs, and initiatives.
One message was clear throughout the evening. Everyone shares the same goal of providing the best possible experience for Burrell students.
That shared commitment is what makes Parents as Allies successful.
As the initiative continues, Burrell School District encourages parents and families to stay engaged, attend future meetings, and continue sharing their perspectives. Working together strengthens our schools, supports our students, and helps ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.
